Global Fast Food Chains Become Increasingly Plant-Friendly, Normalizing Sustainable Food

A report by ProVeg has found that the five leading global fast food chains — McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut, and KFC — are increasingly offering a range of plant-based options. The research looked at the plant-based dishes offered by the chains in Belgium, Czechia, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Spain, the UK, and the US. The chains were then ranked based on these findings, with main meals, sides, and desserts all taken into account. Burger King tops the list Burger King topped the list due to its wide range of animal-free main dishes. The UK’s Fast Food Chains Ranked For Plant-Based Friendly Credentials

ProVeg has ranked the plant-based friendliness of the top-five fast-food chains in the UK, taking into account their selection of vegan options along with the clarity of their menu presentation and labelling.   Burger King is in first place, largely due to its range of nine fully plant-based main meals. These include the Vegan Chicken Royale, Plant-Based Whopper, and Vegan Nuggets. Plant-based bacon made by La Vie has also been a permanent menu fixture at the chain since the beginning of the year. In second place is Subway, which was recognised for clearly labelling plant-based options with the VE symbol and allowing customers to create their own vegan sandwiches. Options include the Meatless Meatball Marinara and the T.L.C (Tastes Like Chicken). McDonald’s takes the third …

Australia: Subway Adds First Vegan Option to the Menu

According to the Australian media magazine Courier Mail, Subway is introducing its first fully vegan sub as a menu option in Australia and New Zealand. The reason for this is increased consumer demand for plant-based filling options in its sandwiches. The purely plant-based alternative contains crushed falafel and will be found at 100 locations of the franchise chain in Australia and New Zealand, particularly in New South Wales, Victora, Queensland, South Australia and West Australia. Consumer acceptance of the vegan alternative will tested there. For the sandwich manufacturer, customer feedback is particularly important. “We seek as much feedback as possible to ensure that when we add or remove ingredients we know exactly what our loyal customers think about them, and all future menu changes are …
