Global food services company Sodexo joined forces with Knorr Professional (Unilever) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to write the Future 50 Foods report which identified 50 healthy foods which offer a low environmental impact. Ice cream brand Solero aims to help reduce plastic use in the home in a pioneering trial; 35% less plastic will be used in Solero Organic Peach pack – its vegan product – compared to the original Solero Organic pack. The trial is part of Unilever‘s #GetPlasticWise ‘Five Point Plastic Plan’ which aims to rethink plastic.
Nestlé to Launch Incredible Burger
Big Food is slowly but surely cashing in on veganism. According to Bloomberg, Nestlé SA intends to use the global increase in veganism to their advantage and create a billion-dollar business out of plant-based products. The world’s biggest food company, whose ethics and practices are often seen as controversial, is making plans for a product called the Incredible Burger, to compete with popular products such as the Beyond Burger and keep up with the growing plant-based movement.

Hellman’s Egg-free Mayonnaise Now Available in UK
Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, owned by food giant Unilever, has traditionally been the most popular mayonnaise by a large margin. However, when vegan mayo arrived on the scene, their share started slipping; first slightly to 46.6 percent, from 46.9 percent in 2014, then steadily more as veganism exploded. Overall sales declined to $1.8 billion, from $1.83 billion the previous year.
Magnum from Unilever Launches First Vegan Ice Cream Flavours
Unilever’s popular ice cream brand Magnum will add two vegan ice cream bars to its product range in September. For the time being, however, the new products will only be available in Finland and Sweden. The two new varieties Magnum Vegan Classic and Magnum Vegan Mandel will be available individually or in packs of four. The plant-based ice cream has already been tested and approved by the European Vegetarian Union. The manufacturer uses peanut protein as a milk alternative for the vegan ice cream. In addition, sustainably grown Rainforest Alliance cocoa beans are used for the dark chocolate that coats the ice cream.
