Vegan Zeastar Opens Pop-Up Plant-Based Seafood Restaurant in The Hague

Dutch plant-based seafood brand Vegan Zeastar, owned by Vegan Finest Foods, is opening its first-ever pop-up restaurant. The restaurant will be located at Zèta, a vegan cafe at Grote Markt in The Hague, from March 5-10. The menu will feature a range of dishes showcasing Vegan Zeastar’s extensive product range, which includes Sashimi, King No Crab, Shrimpz, and King No Crab Cakes. The meals will be prepared by Zèta’s chefs. The pop-up is for “everyone who wants to try something different, whether it is for the experience, for your health, for the environment, or for the animals”. In response to the rapid decline of king crab populations due to overfishing and climate change, Netherlands-based Vegan Zeastar has launched a plant-based alternative that it claims is a world first. Sun-Rose Invest, based in Madrid, will be the new official distributor in the Spanish market for Vegan Zeastar‘s “Vegan Sashimi” and Vegan Zeastar’s “No Tuna” and “No Salmon”, as well as the Vegan Junkstar range of sauces. The Dutch producer also expanded into the UK in 2019 and last year debuted a vegan “cod” product offering a realistic fish and chips experience to consumers in the UK and Netherlands.

After being in the news in 2018 for offering the largest vegan selection in the Netherlands, Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo is the first to stock Vegan Zeastar sushi. The plantbased seafood products are known for their taste and texture; the brand claims its sashimi was considered ‘revolutionary’ by a Japanese sushi chef upon its release.
