Voyage Foods Opens $25M USDA-Backed Facility, Targeting 10,000 Metric Tons of Cocoa-Free Chocolate Annually

Voyage Foods, a food technology company based in Oakland, California, is set to expand its manufacturing operations with a new facility in Mason, Ohio. The plant, spanning 284,000 square feet, will be used to produce the company’s cocoa-free chocolate, nut-free spreads, and bean-free coffee. The factory is expected to be operational by January 2025 and, once fully established, will have an annual production capacity of 10,000 metric tons of cocoa-free chocolate. Construction of the plant is being partially funded through a $25 million loan guaranteed by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), which supports the development of food production facilities in rural areas. Voyage Foods Launches Bean-Free Coffee for Food Service & CPG, Underpricing Traditional Coffee

Voyage Foods, a US company developing future-proof alternatives to the world’s favorite foods, has launched bean-free coffee for food service and the food manufacturing industry. The coffee alternative is made from roasted chickpeas and rice hulls, with similar caffeine levels to traditional coffee (achieved using caffeine derived from green tea). It is also more than 40% cheaper than regular coffee, providing manufacturers with price stability and better margins. The bean-free coffee is available in several varieties, including roast and ground, liquid, liquid concentrate, and instant. Several flavor profiles are available, along with decaffeinated varieties. Voyage Foods announces the availability of its allergen-friendly peanut-free butter and hazelnut-free spread (self-described as a Nutella dupe) in foodservice-sized tubs on Amazon. Voyage Foods Secures $52M for Future-Proof Allergen-Free Foods, Bringing Total Raise to $94M

Californian food innovation company Voyage Foods has secured $52 million in a funding round, bringing the total amount it has raised to $94 million. The round was co-led by Level One Fund and Horizons Ventures, with participation from SOSV, Collaborative Fund, and Nimble Partners. Voyage Foods is working to recreate popular products and flavors without the top nine allergens. The company has already developed peanut-free and hazelnut-free spreads, both made using roasted seeds; in the fall of 2023, the spreads launched at Walmart stores US-wide, in an unusual success for a startup. Additionally, Voyage Foods is addressing issues such as climate change and deforestation by creating alternatives to foods with a large environmental impact.
