NYC Launches “Eat A Whole Lot More Plants” Campaign to Promote Healthy Eating

A new campaign called “Eat A Whole Lot More Plants” has launched in New York City to encourage citizens to adopt a healthy, balanced diet. Ads for the campaign will run on television, radio, subways, NYCLink, outdoor media, and digital channels. The ads will explain the benefits of whole plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and nuts, highlighting their nutrient density and lack of sodium, added sugar, or unhealthy fats. There will also be an emphasis on the role of plant-based foods in preventing chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. The campaign will explore simple swaps such as replacing meat with beans, and will suggest culturally diverse plant-based meals. Advice and support will be provided to those …

Zero Egg Serves Plant-Based Eggs to Mayor and 1,000+ Guests at NYC’s Gracie Mansion

This week, plant-based egg brand Zero Egg sponsored a Dominican Heritage event hosted by Gracie Mansion, the official residence of NYC Mayor Eric Adams. With 1,600 guests, the event was the city’s largest heritage event this year and featured a full spread of plant-based dishes made with Zero Egg.  During the all-vegan event, guests enjoyed plant-based takes on traditional Dominican cuisine, including tostones, maduros, gazpacho, and revuelto de hueve con yucca frita. Normally made with chicken eggs, the revuelto de hueve was created with Zero Egg’s scramble and pickled red onion. Mayor Adams is a well-known vegan and health advocate who used his political platform to introduce vegan meals into the city’s public schools in 2022. Jack Truman, Vegan and Animal Rights Activist, Launches Run for US Congress

Jack Truman, a resident of Barton County, Missouri, announced he is running as the sole Democratic candidate for Missouri’s 4th Congressional district. An animal rights activist and vegan for 22 years, Truman is a self-described liberal conservative who intends to bring positive change to Missouri’s 4th district, which he notes is located in the heart of cattle country. NYC Public Schools Now Serving Vegan Meals to Nearly 1M Students

Starting today, New York City Public Schools – the largest school district in the US – will begin serving vegan meals to students as part of the Vegan Fridays initiative. NYC may be the first major school district to offer a fully vegan lunch menu; some California schools are also considering similar programs. Plant-based veggie tacos, Mediterranean chickpeas and black bean and plantain bowls are a few of the items that will feature on the menu, replacing traditional dairy-based entrees such as pizza and macaroni ‘n cheese.  Promoted by NYC mayor Eric Adams, a long-time vegan and health advocate, the new program follows the success of Meatless Mondays and Meatless Fridays, previously implemented in NYC schools in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
