Stella McCartney Debuts “First Ever” Garment Made With Plant-Based Sequins

Stella McCartney has developed what is claimed to be the first ever garment made from plastic-free, plant-based sequins. The sleeveless Biosequin® jumpsuit has made its debut on the cover of American Vogue, modelled by Cara Delevigne. It is not yet commercially available, but is said to showcase the potential benefits of the material. Developed by a company called Radiant Matter, which specialises in “colour and material solutions for the circular economy”, Biosequins are made from plant-derived cellulose. They are fully biodegradable and contain no plastic, metals, minerals, or synthetic pigments.  According to Stella McCartney, conventional sequins are made from synthetic materials such as PVC or polyester film, which are harmful to the environment and contain chemicals that could have a negative impact on human health. …

“It’s a Game Changer” Says Stella McCartney On Her New Conscious Beauty Brand STELLA

Stella McCartney has teamed up with the LVMH beauty division to develop the ‘conscious luxury’ beauty brand STELLA by Stella McCartney, marking the third big announcement from the ethically minded fashion designer this year. A $200 million sustainability fund was launched earlier this month as a result of a collaboration between Stella McCartney and the venture capital firm Collaborative Fund. Stella McCartney Helps to Launch $200M Sustainability Fund

Stella McCartney has joined forces with venture capital firm Collaborative Fund to launch a sustainability fund worth $200 million. Known as the SOS fund, it is aimed at “cleaner businesses, founders and sustainable solutions”. This includes companies in the fields of decarbonisation, food and agriculture, and materials solutions. Those at Series A or B level will be the main focus. Stella McCartney to Launch “First Ever” Commercial Luxury Bag Made With Mylo Mushroom Leather

Fashion house Stella McCartney has announced that the Frayme Mylo, said to be the first ever luxury bag made with Mylo mushroom leather, will launch commercially later this year. The bag was first showcased last October at Paris Fashion Week, and is based on the design of Stella McCartney’s classic Falabella bag. The material used, Mylo, is a leather alternative made by material solutions company Bolt Threads using mycelium (the root structure of mushrooms). Mushroom-inspired summer collection Stella McCartney also recently unveiled an entire collection inspired by mushrooms. Adidas Unveils its First Vegan Football Boot, Co-Created By Stella McCartney and Man United’s Paul Pobga

The first-ever vegan football boot by adidas, the interestingly titled Predator Freak, uses part recycled materials and components which adidas says were “closely analysed to ensure they conform to both vegan and elite performance standards.” The boot is gender-neutral and created with the sustainability ethics which Stella McCartney says she holds close throughout her work. Adidas has been addressing sustainability issues for a few years. Back in 2019, the sportswear giant created a pair of algae-based shoes in collaboration with Kanye West. The Stella McCartney label has announced it has reached an agreement with luxury goods company LVMH (Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton SE) with Ms McCartney being taken aboard as a sustainability advisor. The steadily-growing vegan trend is not limited to food; this has been confirmed by a recent analysis of the fashion search engine Lyst. The vegan Stan Smith sneaker, designed by Stella McCartney with Adidas, leads the rankings of the most popular and sought-after products in Germany. In total, 80% more sustainable and vegan fashion was searched for this year than last year. In its recent analysis, the fashion search engine Lyst examined the most popular sustainable brands and products among Germans and also drew international comparisons.
