The traditional Menorcan shoe brand Avarcas has presented a vegan version of its classic Pons sandals.
The company Avarcas USA emerged from the original shoe brand Pons Avarcas. It focuses on the distribution of its classic Pons sandals. Its motto is “100% Handmade in Spain”. Founders Noelia Pahissa and Jose Fuentes are working to meet the growing demand for vegan products. They have developed an alternative leather material by working with the Spanish artisans who make the shoes. Currently, the sandals are available in four colors: black, brown, gray and taupe. The decision to enter the vegan market was based on the lifestyle choices of the founding couple. Pahissa explains, “The new collection reflects some of the changes we’re making at home, such as starting a plant-based diet and becoming more ecologically responsible.”
In addition, Pahissa suggests that the sandals are just “the beginning of something big.” Other vegan products, such as handbags, are planned.
