Sainsbury’s Introduces 25 New Vegan Products to Shelves for 2019

UK supermarket Sainsbury’s has added 25 new products to its vegan range, reacting to increasing demand among their customer base. The major supermarket will soon stock over 100 vegan products in stores nationwide, as well as online.

The move comes just in time for Veganuary, the charity initiative which offers support and encouragement for people to try a plant-based diet for the month of January, focusing on its many health benefits. 2019 is expected to be its biggest year yet, with over 300,000 officially signing up, and countless others participating too.

Sainsbury’s new range includes dishes from Gardein, Upton’s Naturals, Sophie’s Kitchen and their own Love Your Veg line. Among the items is a cruelty-free smoked salmon made from konjac root, an ancient superfood which is a staple across Southeast Asia with a texture very similar to salmon. Customers can also look forward to seitan bacon, jackfruit quarter pounders and chorizo sausages.

Sainsbury’s claims to have seen an 82 percent increase in customers searching for vegan products online, coupled with a 45 percent increase in sales of plant-based products compared to 2017.
