UK supermarket giant Tesco last month made a widespread announcement about the expansion of its Wicked Kitchen line, created by chef Derek Sarno, as well as its new affordable line Plant Chef, and the launch of dedicated veggie areas in the supermarket. Sainsbury’s is now responding with affordable products including steak and bacon.
Sainsbury’s line Plant Pioneer includes new Vegan Steaks and Smoky Vacon Rashers which contain no cholesterol and are fortified with iron and vitamin B12, as reported by LiveKindly. The Sainsbury’s website currently features a vegan bacon “lardon” product as part of the Plant Pioneer line, which is made from wheat gluten.
In May of this year, Sainsbury’s was the first UK store to stock vegan ribs, and also brought Vivera steak and bacon to the UK market, which sold out in many stores around the country.
Sainsbury’s also announced recently that customers can order a vegan Christmas menu, available for customers to collect from stores from December 22 to 24. The vegan options include Vegan No Beef Wellington and a mushroom nut roast.
