The vegan meat brand Tofurky has reached a long-awaited sales milestone. After more than two decades of production, 5 million of its vegan holiday roasts have been sold. To celebrate this success, Tofurky is organizing a running event for Thanksgiving.
The tofurky roast contains a mixture of wheat protein and tofu, which is then filled with wild rice and breadcrumbs. Tofurky has grown from 500 roasts sold per year in 1995 to a current production volume of 700,000 per year. The growing demand for vegan meat is prompting Tofurky to expand its production capacities in order to keep pace with demand. Meanwhile, vegan meat products by the US brand are available in various supermarkets in the United States, such as Whole Foods, Safeway, Publix and Kroger.
Tofurky has a consistently positive attitude towards the growing vegan population and the growing need for plant-based proteins. In order to express this, the company, which has existed since 1979, is organizing the “Tofurky Trot 5K”, with more than 1,000 participants. The aim of the event is to raise money for a vegan advocacy group and a local animal welfare organisation.
