At this year’s Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, held from 22-24 May 2018, Barry Callebaut presented a new milk-free product line called Pathway for the B2B market. Due to the general increase in consumer demand for purely plant-based products, Callebaut is now offering Pathway, a range of chocolate alternatives which can be used to produce countless goods such as confectionery, baked goods, cereals and snack products.
Laura Bergan, Director of Innovation and Market Development at Barry Callebaut, says: “Dairy-free is a growing trend, particularly in the confectionery sector. Barry Callebaut already produces many branded products in this sector, including ice cream, snacks, energy bars and confectionery.” Bergan sees the growing number of vegan-oriented consumers and the increasing prevalence of milk allergies and lactose intolerance as the main reasons for this trend.
For this reason, Barry Callebaut now offers “milk-like” plant-based chocolate products which meet the changing needs of consumers. With Pathway, the company’s major clients can also now develop products to meet this demand. Callebaut’s innovative chocolate alternatives can hardly be distinguished from real milk chocolate in taste and are being continuously improved to achieve an even better consistency.
