Beyond Meat has announced that its plant-based Beyond Burger and Sausage are rolling out at UK supermarket chain Morrisons.
Morrisons is the fifth major UK retailer to stock the products, after Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Waitrose. Beyond claims that it now has the strongest sales growth of any plant-based meat brand in the country, in both the chilled and frozen categories.
“We’re delighted to introduce Beyond Meat to Morrisons’ customers”
The company says it provides a more sustainable alternative to meat for the estimated 46% of UK adults looking to reduce their intake of animal products. According to research, making the Beyond Burger uses 99% less water and generates 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than producing a comparably-sized beef burger.
Beyond Meat in the UK
Beyond Meat initially launched in the UK in 2018, gaining a listing at Tesco and subsequently at other retailers such as Ocado. Last year, the brand announced a huge retail expansion across the UK and Europe, entering 450 new stores in the UK alone.
Beyond products are also available for food service in the country, leading to some high-profile collaborations such as the use of Beyond patties in McDonalds’ McPlant burger.
“We’re delighted to introduce Beyond Meat to Morrisons’ customers in our quest to make tasty plant-based meat more available across the UK,” said Jorg Oostdam, Beyond Meat General Manager, Europe. “Our Beyond Meat products are enjoyed by everyone from carnivores to flexitarians to vegans looking for the same taste and texture as animal-based meat but seeking a more planet-friendly option.”
