Billie Green Launches Range of Plant-Based Mortadellas

Germany’s Billie Green, the corporate startup under The Plantly Butchers, announces that its vegan salami range is now joined by plant-based mortadellas in classic, garden herb, and cherry pepper varieties.

The classic variety is described as mildly spicy; the garden herb as mild and herby; and the cherry pepper variety is described as a fruity, flavourful mortadella. Based on rapeseed oil, the three products are said to be rich in unsaturated fatty acids and fibre, have a short list of ingredients, and are free from preservatives and artificial colourings.

InFamily Foods, formed in 2020 from the merger of Reinert (founded in 1931) and Kemper (founded in 1888), includes The Family Butchers, Cultivated B, and The Plantly Butchers with its Billie Green brand. The company, headquartered in Nortrup and Versmold, Niedersachsen, is a leading meat processor in Germany.

In the autumn of 2020, The Plantly Butchers was launched to develop wheat protein-based meat substitutes. By September 2022, Billie Green introduced five plant-based products in German supermarkets: two types of sliced vegan salami, a whole vegan salami, bacon, and ham cubes. In 2023, three vegan barbecue products were added, followed by three sausage alternatives in June 2024.

InFamily Foods also established The Cultivated B. to enhance alternative protein production for food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. This subsidiary is pursuing regulatory approval to sell hybrid cultivated meat products in Europe.
