Cado: Avocado-Based Vegan Ice Cream

Vegan ice cream is more in demand than ever before. Experts forecast an average annual growth rate of 8.79% for the market for the period 2018 to 2022. A market analysis by Future Market Insights has also shown that the plant-based ice cream market will reach 2.5 billion dollars within the next decade. The ice-cream brand Cado is helping to shape this trend – but with an extraordinary main ingredient.

Unlike other vegan ice creams, Cado is made from avocado. The brand claims to be the first manufacturer of avocado-based ice cream. In addition, Cado does not use nuts or soy, which makes the ice cream a good alternative for allergy sufferers. According to the manufacturers, this unusual ingredient has special properties for the ice cream.  “Avocados, because of the quality of the fat and creaminess, had found their way into our smoothies and pies, and so using them to craft ice cream was a natural next step,” said Meghan Dowd, one of the co-founders of Cado.

Cado is already well established in markets such as Whole Foods Market and Fresh Market with varieties such as Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip and Lemon Sorbet. New varieties such as Cherry Amaretto, Java Chip, Vanilla and Salted Caramel will follow in the future.

Other vegan ice cream manufacturers are also choosing new ingredients. For example, McConnell’s manufactures vegan ice cream from pea protein and Whole Foods Market’s own brand produces ice cream from almond milk.
