CAVAL Launches Vegan and Recycled Apple Leather Sneakers

The French shoe brand CAVAL, widely known for its range of mismatched sneakers, has announced it will be making a sustainable and vegan alternative. The shoes will be made partially of Pellemela, a recycled material made from apple peels.

In recent years, apple peel leather has been gaining in popularity. The material is made using waste from the apple juice industry in Tyrol, Italy, in combination with polyurethane. Many brands are already using it to make cruelty-free, sustainable products such as wallets and clutch bags.

Now, CAVAL is set to join them. On June 13, the brand will be launching a new line of unisex vegan sneakers. They will be made from apple leather, polyurethane, natural rubber, and organic cotton. All materials used will be European.

Vegan leather alternatives are on the rise worldwide, with the industry expected to be worth $89.6 billion by 2025. In recent years, brands have used leather alternatives made from everything from pineapples to wine byproducts.

CAVAL’s sneakers will initially be available in four colours, and a fifth colour will be released in September in collaboration with the French department store Le Bon Marché. The sneakers will retail for 139 euros on the brand’s online store.
