Elmhurst Launches Hemp Creamer at Expo West

Elmhurst 1925 has brought the first hemp creamer to the North American domestic market. Formally a dairy farm, the New-York based company launched its original range of plant-based milks at the Natural Products Expo West in March 2017.

The switch in farming for this company was a reaction to the changing market in the USA, where dairy sales are declining as plant-based alternatives increase.

The hemp creamer is made with hemp seeds and contains a balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. It is vegan and kosher, with no added gums, oils, stabilizers, gluten, artificial flavours or added sugar.

The changing attitude to hemp products in the USA coincides with the rise of plant-based foods.  Most hemp beverage producers guarantee their plants to have 0% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).  Plants with a 0.3% or less THC can also be used, however this is not sufficient THC content for consumers to experience any of the psychotropic effects typically associated with the cannabis plant.

Peter Truby, vice president of marketing at Elmhurst, said in an interview with FoodBev Media: “Elmhurst 1925 is passionate about leading the plant-based milk category with on-trend innovation, and given the explosive growth of the hemp category, we’re excited to announce the industry’s first hemp creamer.”
