France’s ACCRO Launches Six New Meat Alternatives, Including Escalope & Premium Burger

French alt meat brand ACCRO has expanded its range with six new products, all made with French-grown pea, wheat, and bean proteins.

All six have received a Nutriscore rating of either A or B, and are manufactured in northern France using an entirely vertically-integrated process. This is said to guarantee high quality.

The products are:

  • Premium burger — Described as having a gourmet appearance and “tender angel hair texture”, this is a more premium version of ACCRO’s original plain and smoked burgers.
  • Mince — Said to be ideal for use in dishes such as stuffed tomatoes, empanadas, lasagna, and shepherd’s pie.
  • Escalope — Breaded plant-based turkey, suitable served as a filling in sandwiches and wraps or paired with vegetables.
  • Chunks — A plant-based alternative to chicken chunks for use in dishes such as curries and stir-fries.
  • Sausages — Described as “rich and savoury”, ACCRO’s sausages can be barbecued, served with mashed potatoes, and more.
  • Merguez — A plant-based version of a spicy mutton- or beef-based sausage from northwest Africa.

“A real craze”

The plant-based industry is thriving in France, despite attempts to ban the use of meat-like terms such as “steak” and “sausage” on alt meat products. ACCRO was one of six companies that helped to bring about the suspension of these laws last July, in conjunction with the body Protéines France.

Meanwhile, French alt protein companies raised €168 million in 2022, over 11 times more than the previous year.

“The French are looking for products that are both healthy and environmentally friendly. We are seeing a real craze in the market for plant-based alternatives to meat. After a successful brand launch, with already more than 1700 points of sale, the ACCRO adventure continues with the launch of new product innovations!” Renaud Saisset, CEO of ACCRO, told Pour Nourrir Demain.
