Greggs Launches Vegan Mexican Bake Featuring THIS Chick*n Pieces

UK bakery chain Greggs has launched a new limited edition vegan option, the Mexican Chicken-Free Bake, with the chicken-style pieces produced by alt meat brand THIS, which also worked with the bakery chain for the Vegan Turkey and Stuffing Baguette.

According to the chain, the bake consists of “chicken-free pieces, mixed vegetables and Mexican style tomato sauce, packed into a deliciously crispy pastry case topped with a cheese-flavour crumb”.

Customers can now find the new bake at Greggs stores across the UK; however, it is not clear how long it will be available.

Customers demand vegan options

Greggs launched its first vegan option — a sausage roll — in 2019. The new offering was so successful that the chain’s profits skyrocketed, leading it to develop more plant-based options.

Greggs’ vegan range now includes a Sausage, Bean & CheeZe Melt, Glazed Ring Doughnut, Sausage Breakfast Roll made with Quorn, Southern Fried Chicken-Free Baguette, and more.

“Many customers are demanding more non-meat products and we want to offer more choices. I can now reveal our staff are working hard in our testing kitchens to make new meat and dairy-free products suitable for vegans. The range will get wider in the future,” former Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside told the Evening Standard following the success of the chain’s vegan sausage rolls.
