Mind Blown Plant Based Seafood Co. Launches New Crispy Fried Shrimp, Ready to Heat-and-Eat

Mind Blown Plant Based Seafood Co. this week announces the latest addition to its product lineup: Crispy, Crunchy, Fried Shrimp.

The plant-based alternative, designed to mimic traditional fried shrimp, debuts as a limited-time offering exclusively available from the company’s website. According to Mind Blown’s Co-founder and CEO Monica Talbert, the new shrimp aims to replicate the experience of traditional fried shrimp while being accessible to individuals with dietary restrictions or allergies.

“This shrimp is crispy and crunchy on the outside and tender and sweet on the inside, just like traditional shrimp from the water. It’s also our first par-cooked product that is ready to heat and eat,” states Talbert.

Talbert, whose background includes experience in seafood restaurants, added that fried shrimp has long been a popular menu item, noting, “These plant-based shrimp are so versatile and perfect to dunk into cocktail sauce, toss with a bang-bang sauce, stuff in a taco, or top over a bowl of creamy grits.”

The Crispy, Crunchy, Fried Shrimp is made with konjac, a starchy root vegetable that is gaining popularity in the alt-seafood industry as it effectively replicates the texture of shrimp, squid, or raw fish. Companies in the space using konjac as an ingredient in plant-based seafood alternatives include Boldly, Azuma Foods, and WOOP4.

The new fried shrimp joins other Mind Blown offerings, including Dusted Scallops, which also feature konjac, and Bay-Style Crab Cakes.

Improving consumer accessibility

Beyond taste and convenience, the new product is intended to accommodate those with shellfish allergies, religious dietary restrictions, or health concerns related to seafood, such as high cholesterol.

Talbert explains, “Everybody loves fried shrimp, but more and more people are allergic to shellfish, suffer from gout, high cholesterol, have religious restrictions, or are concerned for the animals and the environment. With our shrimp being made from plants, everyone can enjoy the craveable Crispy, Crunchy, Fried Shrimp without guilt or sacrifice!”

This limited-time product will be available through direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales on the company’s website, as well as in foodservice channels. Shipping for orders will begin on November 13, 2024.
