One Planet Pizza Launches Vegan Tex Mex Pizza at Morrisons Stores UK-Wide

Plant-based brand One Planet Pizza has announced that its Tex Mex pizza, said to be a frozen category first, is launching at Morrisons stores across the UK.

The pizza consists of a wood-fired sourdough base topped with tomato sauce, Willicroft’s plant-based cheese made from white beans, marinated vegetables, and jalapeños. According to One Planet Pizza, it contains around 35% less fat than conventional pizzas topped with dairy cheese.

This is One Planet Pizza’s second major UK supermarket launch; the brand previously gained a permanent listing at 400 Asda stores following a successful trial as part of the retailer’s incubator program. Performance has reportedly been strong, with +41% year-on-year growth.

One Planet Pizza is also available from Booths, Mighty Plants, and The Vegan Kind, along with Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo.

“Outrageously tasty”

One Planet Pizza was founded in 2016 by father and son Mike and Joe Hill, with the mission of getting more people excited about plant-based food. The company has seen rapid growth, telling vegconomist last year that it had moved production to the Netherlands to take advantage of “huge opportunities” for vegan pizza across mainland Europe.

By moving to a larger manufacturer, One Planet Pizza said it had also been able to make improvements to its range, including a switch to sourdough bases. Following these changes, the range reportedly began performing two times better.

“We can’t wait to spice up Morrison’s freezers with our outrageously tasty Tex Mex,” said Joe Hill, co-founder of One Planet Pizza and guest judge on BBC’s The Apprentice. “Our mission has always been to make vegan pizzas SO good that even meat eaters want a slice! We’re pretty proud that our strong sales, reviews, and brand growth suggest we are doing exactly that!”
