UK-based pie brand Pieminister has expanded its wholesale range with the launch of a new vegan-friendly product, the Chana Rama pie.
Said to be the company’s lowest-carbon option, the pie contains giant chickpeas, spinach, sweet potato, and cauliflower, all cooked in a spice blend and encased in pastry. The product was recently named Best Vegan Pie at the British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray.
The Chana Rama is said to be ideal for food service outlets that are looking to expand their vegan ranges. It is also available at Pieminister’s restaurants across the UK, and can be purchased directly by consumers from the brand’s own online store.
“It’s such an honour to win Best Vegan Pie,” said Pieminister co-founder Tristan Hogg. “The vegan food scene has come a long way recently, and it’s good to see that what was a niche pie category has become mainstream. Plant-based pies like this new one of ours aren’t just for vegans, they’re for anyone who likes good wholesome food – it’s just a really good pie, vegan or otherwise!”

“Becoming as sustainable as possible”
For some time, Pieminister has been working to make its range more sustainable by offering more vegetarian and plant-based products. The brand’s fully vegan options include the Mooless Moo, containing jackfruit steak with ale and black pepper, and the Banger & Bean Handy Pie, developed in partnership with THIS.
In 2022, Pieminister launched vegan and gluten-free gravy for retail in a ready-to-serve format.
“Expanding our vegan range is key to our mission of becoming as sustainable and ethical as possible,” Pieminister co-founder and MD Jon Simon told British Baker. “We don’t assume ‘plant-based’ equals low-impact, so we conduct our own rigorous supply chain audits.”
