Retailer Argos Introduces a Vegan Barbecue

The online retailer Amazon has already predicted a new barbecue trend for the summer: vegan BBQ. The mail order company subsequently published a trend list with a variety of vegan dishes which are currently enjoying increasing popularity. Argos is now launching a vegan BBQ grill, which according to the company is the first of its kind in the world.

As the demand for vegan meat alternatives increases, more and more retailers are expanding their product range in this area. For example, Netto has been offering vegetarian grilled steaks and sausages from BioBio in all its stores since May. The British brand Quorn offers vegan sausages, amongst other things. However, consumers have so far sought a suitable vegan BBQ grill in vain.

Argos, a subsidiary of Sainsbury’s, has now announced the launch of the world’s first vegan grill. The enterprise promises all vegans a “delicious home-cooked outdoor treat” with perfectly prepared meals.

However, the differences to a “normal” grill are not discernible to the buyer. Critics view this campaign as a marketing ploy to appeal to vegan consumers. In response to the criticism, Argos has admitted that the so-called “vegan” grill exactly matches the specifications of an existing product. “We have taken one of our most popular barbecues and relaunched it especially for the ever-growing vegan market,” said a spokesman for Argos.
