Argentinian Pizza Chain Tomasso Launches ‘NotCo Suave’ Plant-Based Empanadas

Argentinian pizzeria chain Tomasso has launched NotCarne Suave, a plant-based empanada, in collaboration with Chile / New York-based unicorn NotCo. The new collaboration is a new milestone for the pizzeria, representing its first bet on plant-based gastronomy.

The new NotCarne Suave is part of a development by NotCo, which with its technology and team of chefs, has managed to find the best combination of plants that together recreate the taste and texture of meat. The filling is made from plant-based ingredients such as peas, beans, bamboo fibre, chia, carrot and coconut, along with other ingredients that characterise the Argentinean empanada such as onion, green olives, pepper, and paprika

The similarity to the taste of beef is said to be such that the collab promises to be a hit with vegans and vegetarians as well as meat lovers. NotCo and Tomasso are challenging all their customers to try this limited edition and dare to enjoy the plant-based mild beef taste.

Erica Stacey, development manager at Tomasso says: “Consumers today are increasingly incorporating plant-based foods into their diets, driven by a desire to improve their health and reduce the environmental impact of their food choices. The partnership between Tomasso and NotCo, allows us to develop attractive plant-based food solutions and collaborate in the transition to a more sustainable food system”.

Renzo Gini of NotCo said: “This partnership with Tomasso allows more people to have the chance to taste an Argentine classic, enjoying its unmistakable flavour in a more sustainable way, accelerating the change we need for a better planet and a better future,” said Renzo Gini of NotCo.

The new NotCarne Suave Limited Edition will be available in 60 stores in the City of Buenos Aires for in-store pick-up and online. Click here to read our recent interview with NotCo founder and CEO Matias Muchnick.
