Generasi Dairy-Free Festival Takes Place for the First Time in Jakarta

On September 22-25, Jakarta Vegan Guide hosted a new event, Generasi Dairy-Free Festival, for the first time ever. At the festival, which was claimed to be the first of its kind in Asia, 40 brands exhibited dairy-free and plant-based foods and beverages. These included sweets, desserts, ice creams, and coffee, among others. A variety of talk shows and workshops took place, including a panel discussion called The Rise of Alternative Milk: Is the Demand for Alternative Milk Here to Stay? There was also an Alternative Milk Latte Art Competition, sponsored by plant-based milk brands Oatly, Milk Lab, V-Soy, and Orasi. Meatless Kingdom: Mushroom-Based Meat Alternatives From Indonesia

Meatless Kingdom is an Indonesian startup making alt-meat products from mushrooms. The company was launched in 2019 by Widya Putra, who wanted to create an alternative to imported plant-based meats. Widya studied Microbiology and Food Quality Management at university, using this opportunity to research mushrooms and plant-based foods. He then went on to launch Meatless Kingdom, combining mushrooms with other ingredients such as soybeans and seaweed to create high-protein, low-gluten meat alternatives. The range currently includes nuggets, sausages, Japanese siomay (steamed dumplings), and more. In Indonesia, Meatless Kingdom products are sold both online and in retail stores. Leading alternative protein venture capital firm Unovis Asset Management has announced the closing of its investment in Indonesia-based startup, Green Butcher. Located in Jakarta, the company claims to be the first plant-based meat producer in the Southeast Asian country, developing chicken and beef alternatives using natural, whole-food ingredients.

Starbucks Indonesia Launches Plant-Based Menu Created By Green Butcher

Green Butcher, an Indonesian plant-based meat startup focused on Asian flavours, announces the closure of its seed round led by Unovis for an undisclosed amount, as well as the debut of a range of its products at 50 Starbucks outlets. Together, the two companies have developed alternative meal options featuring Green Butcher’s plant-based meat alternatives.

Singapore’s Float Foods launches ‘NEWFOOD Startup 2020’ for Plant-Based Innovators in Indonesia

A Singaporean plant-based startup called Float Foods informs vegconomist that it has launched NEW FOOD Startup 2020, Indonesia’s first joint cross-border food incubator. The incubator is aimed towards plant-based food innovators in Indonesia and winners can receive up to $25,000 in funding and mentoring.
