The 10,000 Black Vegan Women Program Surpasses 10,000 Sign-Ups

A new online program designed to support black women to go vegan for 21 days, in Black History Month, already surpassed its target of signups before it went live yesterday Monday, October 5th. The program has been created by award-winning public health nutritionist and author Tracye McQuirter, MPH.

The 10,000 Black Vegan Women Program has already had over 10,000 black women sign up.

African Americans experience the highest rates of preventable chronic diseases in the US, including heart disease, certain cancers and diabetes. These figures could start to turn as a recent report from the BBC in the UK informs us that black Americans are leading in the stats that represent veganism in the States: “8% of black Americans are strict vegans or vegetarians, compared to just 3% of the general of the population.” And, “a January poll by Gallup found that 31% of non-white Americans had reduced their meat consumption in the past year, compared to only 19% of white Americans.”

The socio-economic factors that have created this imbalance in health are still systemically ingrained in the USA but the Tracye McQuirter program should help elevate these figures for plant-based diets and consequently go some way to improve health in this demographic.

The program offers a series of online 21-Day Vegan Fresh Starts that include cooking videos, meal plans, vegan recipes, grocery shopping lists, meal prep guides, and nutrition tips.

Participants will receive a link to download their free 21-Day Fresh Start Guidebook, which includes preparation guidance, nutrition 101, meal plans, recipes, grocery lists, and meal prep tips for the 21 days. Participants will have access to live online calls with Tracye and special guests twice a week for guidance, Q&As, tips, and support. A private Facebook group will be a space for women to get to know each other and provide support and encouragement throughout the 21 days. Tracye will also lead an interactive online cooking class, where participants will cook a vegan meal together in real-time. And, complementary virtual fitness classes will be provided for participants by a certified fitness coach, who is also a participant in the program.

Tracye stated in a recent press release: “I want to truly change the health paradigm of black women. We are leaders in so many progressive ways, but we are in a crisis when it comes to our health. And while there are many reasons for this, we have the power to take back control of our health. It’s about our greens, not our genes! Eating affordable, nutritious, and delicious plant-based foods is one of the best ways for us to get healthy now and for the rest of our lives.”
