Califia Farms, the well-known Los Angeles based natural beverage company, have announced a new round of funding which they have received to the tune of over $50 million. The plant-based milk market is set to exceed $34 billion by 2024, thanks to the enormous success in the global natural milk producers, and in particular Califia Farms, who have been enjoying exponential growth with their plant milks, creamers, juices and probiotic yogurts.
Califia was founded in 2010 and rapidly became a leader in the refrigerated nut-milk sector, making them one of the fastest growing beverage companies in the USA. In recent months they introduced a brand of probiotic yogurt drinks which are already amongst the best-selling dairy-free probiotic drinks in North America. The company’s mission is to “Discover and share ‘what plants can do’ to help achieve whole body health, as well as to encourage wider adoption of plant-based foods and beverages for the good of our planet.”
The drinks company enlisted a group of famous athletes, musicians, actors and supermodels to support and highlight the importance of veganism, and have obtained a uniquely “cool” status for their brand in part due to receiving a large chunk of investment from Leonardo DiCaprio. This group of celebrities include actor Jared Leto, whose band 30 Seconds to Mars has obtained tour sponsorship by the brand. Concert-goers will be presented with a 90 second video ode to the mythical namesake Queen Califia of California, as part of a youth-oriented campaign for their cold brew drink.
There is no doubting that the future of the Califia brand is set to soar. CEO Greg Steltenpohl said of the investment “This round of funding will allow us to further pursue our vision to be the leading plant-powered food and beverage company of the future by investing in our four brand pillars of sustainability, health and wellness, plant-based innovation and engaging consumer experiences.”
