vegconomist has been supporting the Lviv Vegan Kitchen project since April 2022. The Lviv Vegan Kitchen team provided Ukrainian war refugees and soldiers with vegan meals.
To date, with the help of our readers and the matching grant from the Karuna Foundation, which doubled every donation up to the sum of 20,000 US dollars, we have been able to raise a total of €44,600 for Lviv Vegan Kitchen.
Project Update: Lviv Vegan Kitchen Ends Refugee Aid – Support for Vegan Soldiers Continues
The following changes have led to Lviv Vegan Kitchen’s decision to terminate all processes related to refugee support:
- Their chef joined the armed forces
- Difficulties in recruiting employees (this is a problem faced by all Ukrainian employers; there are literally fewer and fewer people, especially skilled labour)
- Low donations and rising food prices mean that the project can no longer be financed
The team also reports burnout and frustration related to the difficult situation. Nevertheless, the support for vegan soldiers will continue.

“We are full of enthusiasm to do this work and have a couple of good ideas – vegan 3 in 1 coffee sticks, 1 minute soups, new packaging for protein bars we already produce for two years etc. We are going to continue supporting them and ship parcels so our work continues! Reports will be posted once a month as usual.” explain Marta and Oksana, the two founders of the project.
Matching Grant Has Been Reached, Lviv Vegan Kitchen still Needs Your Support
With your help, we were able to fully utilize the matching grant from the Karuna Foundation for the donation project. On behalf of Lviv Vegan Kitchen, we would like to thank the Karuna Foundation and all donors! Support is still urgently needed. You can donate directly to the project via the website.
