French Startup Les Nouveaux Fermiers Secures €2 Million for Its Plant-Based Steak & Chicken

The Nouveaux Fermiers, a startup based in France producing plantbased steak and chicken products, has raised 2 million euros to aid its mission – “Reinventing meat from natural and local plant ingredients to better feed the planet.”

The company, which translates as The New Farmers, was launched “for all those city dwellers, millennials and our families,” who it says are “not necessarily vegetarians or flexitarians, but they ask themselves questions about their diet, for their health and for the impact on the animal or the planet.”

The startup was only founded last year, by Cédric Meston and Guillaume Dubois, and has raised around 2 million euros from key industry figures including as Adrien de Schompré (co-founder of Sushi Shop), Philippe Cantet (formerly CEO at Innocent), and Edouard Roschi (co-founder of the Lab).

Consumers have been able to purchase its three products online since March and there are plans in place to distribute into Carrefour & Monoprix in the near future.
