German Food Startup “Planty-of-Meat” Unveils “Planty-of-Burger”

With its new product PLANTY-OF-BURGER, German food startup PLANTY-OF-MEAT is launching the first ever locally-made meat alternative onto the German market. The company hopes the new burger will impress vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, and meat-eaters alike.

PLANTY-OF-MEAT, founded in January 2019 in Gilchingen near Munich, is the first German plant-based food start-up to develop natural meat alternatives domestically. With its new products, the company aims to offer European consumers and restaurateurs regionally-produced and realistic alternatives to plant-based products sold internationally. PLANTY-OF-MEAT debuts with the PLANTY-OF-BURGER “SUNNY-CUT” and the company is working on further new products, including PLANTY-OF-SAUSAGE, which will be launched later this year.

Most of the realistic meat alternatives on the market are imported, but PLANTY-OF-MEAT products are developed locally in Germany and manufactured regionally. This meets consumer demand for more transparency and sustainability, including with regards to their own carbon footprints. The startup’s mission: locally-made, realistic alternatives which can be enjoyed by meat fans as well as vegans. This is timely, because according to the German Future Institute’s Food Trends 2019, these foods are set to increasingly displace animal products from the market.
