Israeli startup Equinom combines cutting-edge technology with natural breeding techniques to produce high-functioning non-GMO seeds with an advanced nutritional profile.
Equinom’s new technology directly connects food companies to the supply chain, bringing a greater transparency and responsible sourcing of plant-based protein. Their goal is to produce high-quality proteins that require less land and water and reduce crop waste. Using DNA sequencing and proprietary algorithms, Equinom cultivates carefully selected seeds that maximize plants natural abilities. This technology enables production of chickpeas, sesame, and soy, that contains substantially more protein than the current varieties on the market.
Equinom has already signed contracts with global leaders in the food industry, including Sabra Dipping Company, LLC, US, which is a joint venture of PepsiCo, and Israel’s Strauss Group Ltd, as well as a commercialization agreement with Mitsui & Co.
French company Roquette has also partnered with Equinom to develop and source new varieties of pea with high-protein content. Roquette and Equinom’s current shareholder, Fortissimo Capital, will jointly invest US$4 million in development, bringing Equinom to a total of US$10.5 million in investments.
