American politician Cory Booker is a Senator from New Jersey, in office since 2013 who previously held the role of Mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013, and is currently one of the most prominent Democrats in New Jersey. This morning, Sen. Booker announced that he will stand for the 2020 presidency.
Booker, a vegetarian for 20 years, recently took to veganism, and as a prolific social media user, he has been utilising his platform to promote the cause to his reported 552,000 Instagram followers and 4.1 million Twitter followers. Booker famously responded to his critic Donald Trump on Facebook, declaring: “This is not a time to curl up, give up or shut up. It is time to get up; to stand up, to speak words that heal, help, and recommit to the cause of our country.”
The senator is outspoken in the media in terms of his beliefs. He previously commented to The Daily Beast, “I want to try to live my own values as consciously and purposefully as I can […]Being vegan for me is a cleaner way of not participating in practices that don’t align with my values.”
