Blue Diamond & Brightseed Find 188 Predicted Bioactive Compounds in Almonds

Leading almond marketer and processor Blue Diamond has partnered with bioactives company Brightseed to better understand the health potential of Californian almonds. Brightseed uses a proprietary AI technology called Forager to identify bioactives — molecules produced by plants that trigger specific health benefits. The technology works at a rate, speed, and scale that was previously impossible, with the company raising $68 million last year to further accelerate its nutrient discovery. After profiling Blue Diamond’s almonds, Forager has found 188 predicted compounds that could impact areas such as mental wellness, metabolic health, and immunity. Almonds are already known to be highly nutrient-dense, with benefits for heart health, blood glucose management, weight management, and gut health. Portuguese Supermarket Continente Expands Vegan Range With Dairy-Free Yogurts

Portuguese supermarket chain Continente has expanded its Powered by Plants brand with a selection of vegan yogurts. Called Vegegurtes, the range contains both almond and coconut-based options. The almond yogurts are available in the varieties Natural, Red Fruits, and Peach Passionfruit, while the coconut yogurts come in the flavours Natural, Strawberry, and Mango Passion Fruit. The range is made in Portugal and available at Continente stores across the country. The yogurts are all fortified with calcium, vitamin B12, and vitamin D, and have been certified vegan by the internationally recognised V-Label. Continente also offers several varieties of plant-based yogurt made by brands such as Alpro and Sojasun. NOIX Wins China’s Good Food Award For Jooma Almond Yogurt

The Chinese subsidiary of Munich-based NOIX AG has been awarded the Good Food Award by China’s Good Food Fund for its almond-based yogurt brand Jooma, which it produces at its state-of-the-art plant in Tianjin, China. As such, NOIX becomes the only foreign producer to receive this award other than Oatly. The company says that it was honored due to the exceptionally high product quality it achieves sustainably and without artificial additives, which in the opinion of the Good Food Fund makes it an exemplary product for China. To produce the yogurt, NOIX uses a unique proprietary technology, originally developed together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging in Freising, Germany, which it subsequently supplemented and refined. UK-based ethical, dairy-free producer Nush Foods has announced the release of two new plant-based products, adding to its range of health-conscious yogurts and cheeses.
