Report Finds Rising Interest in Vegan Sweet Bakery Products

A new UK report by Baker & Baker, a European manufacturer of bakery products, demonstrates significant growth opportunities in the vegan sweet bakery market. The research, contained in the report “Bakery Bites – the rise of the flexitarian: the growing interest in vegan sweet bakery products”, was conducted by FMCG Gurus. The research involved a survey of 1,000 UK consumers and was conducted in Q2 2022. The standout finding is that the number of flexitarians (i.e. those who make a conscious decision to eat fewer animal products) continues to increase exponentially. OGGS Relaunches Vegan Luxury Handmade Mince Pies for the Festive Season

British bakery and egg alternatives brand OGGS has relaunched its much-loved Vegan Luxury Handmade Mince Pies at over 700 Tesco stores. The mince pies feature plant-based pastry filled with spiced brandy-laced mincemeat (a mixture of chopped dried fruit). In 2019, they won iCrossing’s yearly Mince Pie taste test, beating competition from Tesco, Waitrose, M&S, and Sainsbury’s. The pies are also sustainably packaged in 100% recycled plastic. OGGS products OGGS debuted its vegan cakes in 2019, followed by aquafaba-based egg alternatives the following year. Hilton Food Group recently reported that its vegan and vegetarian category grew 40% in the first half of 2022. Over a three-year period, Hilton’s total revenue rose 20.4% to £2,038.7M. UK Bakery Chain Greggs Opens Eco-Shop to Trial Sustainability Initiatives

British high-street bakery chain Greggs has opened an Eco-Shop in Great Billing, Northampton, to test out new sustainability solutions. Technologies currently being trialled at the store include environmentally friendly ovens, air-assisted toilets, heat pump air curtains, and more. Those that prove successful will be rolled out at other Greggs stores nationwide. The new store is part of the Greggs Pledge, a set of ten ethical and sustainable commitments made by the company. The sixth commitment relates to opening “shops of the future” and incorporating sustainable solutions into 250 existing stores by the end of the year. Baker & Baker Launches First Vegan Range of Bakery Products

Baker & Baker, the European bakery products manufacturer, has launched its first range of vegan products. The UK-headquartered company says the range has been launched to meet increased demand for vegan products across the continent. “Flexitarian and vegan diets are now mainstream and will continue to grow” The new Baker & Baker vegan range includes cookies, doughnuts and muffins. The products are thaw and serve or baked from frozen, with a shelf life of between two and five days. British high-street bakery chain Greggs has announced it will be giving away free Vegan Festive Bakes throughout the month of December.
