Study Explores Benefits of Spent Barley Protein

A peer-reviewed scientific study has found that EverPro, said to be the world’s only upcycled barley protein and described by the company as one of the world’s most sustainable proteins, to be one of the most digestible proteins available. The study found a higher uptake of the amino acids methionine and tryptophane with EverPro compared to pea protein, and noted that overall absorption speeds were similar to both pea and whey proteins. EverPro combines barley with a small amount of rice protein, which may somewhat improve uptake of amino acids; however, overall uptake was slightly lower than for pea protein. Coors Beer Enters Alt Dairy Category with Upcycled Barley Milk

US beer giant Molson Coors is to enter the alt dairy category with the debut of its Golden Wing Barley Milk – a non-alcohol plant-based milk that will sit in the dairy aisle. Using upcycled barley and shiitake mushroom extract the company hopes to expand beyond the beer aisle and reach more consumers seeking healthier options. Using their knowledge of grains, Molson Coors is tapping into one of beer’s primary ingredients to produce Golden Wing Barley Milk. Portland’s Take Two is On Track to Upcycle at Least 500,000 Pounds of Waste Grain From Beer Industry Into Barley Milk

With over 8 billion pounds of spent grain going to waste annually, Portland Oregon’s Take Two is the first company to utilize upcycled barley into nutritious plant milk. Committed to using upcycled ingredients, Take Two is one of the first companies to become Upcycled Certified by the Upcycled Food Association.
