European Survey Finds 19% of Consumers Will Eat More Plant-Based Foods Post-Covid

A survey of consumers in seven European countries, conducted by V-Label, has found that a growing number of respondents are looking to eat more plant-based foods post-Covid. Across all the countries surveyed — Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, England, and Poland — an average of 19% of consumers said they planned to change their diets to incorporate more plant-based foods. Denmark topped the list at 24%, while Poland had the lowest figure at 13%. Of these consumers, 46% and 41% planned to consume more milk and meat alternatives respectively, while 25% said they would eat more plant-based meals such as pizza. 63% listed health concerns as a motivation for change, and 57% mentioned environmental reasons. Russian Consumers Included 3X More Plant-Based Foods Into Their Diets During Pandemic

Last year we wrote that around 10% of Russians were already eating plant-based alternatives and 54% were willing to include them in their diet. A new study made by Eating Better shows new encouraging results. According to the study, for a year and a half, residents of Russian cities began to consume meat and milk alternatives three times more often (the share of consumers in the “meat” category increased from 10% to 34%, in the “milk” category – from 9% to 31%). Such plant-based alternatives are in the greatest demand among young people and people with high incomes. Thistle Commits $250,000 to Support West Coast Food Service, Offering $25 For Customers to Dine Locally & Shun Delivery Apps

Thistle, the US plant-forward food and nutrition DTC brand, has announced its Thistle Dines Out initiative, committing $250,000 to support locally-owned restaurants and food trucks recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Vegan Restaurant Chain By Chloe to Be Bought Out of Bankruptcy, Must Continue Under Different Name

BC Hospitality Group, parent company of vegan fast-casual chain by Chloe, has agreed to sell the chain out of bankruptcy to a group of investors including QOOT International, Simple Capital Management LLC, Kitchen Fund, Lion Capital LLC, and Bain Capital Double Impact Fund. The group has agreed to pay $333,000 as well as the assumption of its debts, though it has been ruled that moving forward it must operate under a different name.   By Chloe launched in 2015 and expanded to 14 locations around the US as well as becoming recently established in London and Canada. A new study by health food chain Holland & Barrett demonstrates some statistics behind the rise of veganism in the UK, revealing that 12% of UK adults (23% of 16-24s) were influenced by the coronavirus outbreak and health concerns arising from it.
