Albertsons Adds 12 Plant-Based Products, Including Dairy-Free Cheese and Oat Ice Cream, to Open Nature Brand

American grocery chain Albertsons announces it is expanding its private label Open Nature brand with 12 new plant-based products, ranging from shredded cheese and yogurt to oat and almond ice cream. The new offerings join Open Nature’s existing selection of plant-based foods, and are now available at Albertsons supermarkets and its banner stores, including Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco and ACME.  According to Albertsons, Open Nature provides shoppers with tasty foods made with thoughtfully chosen ingredients that don’t contain unnecessary additives. Bold Cultr, General Mills’ Animal-Free Cream Cheese Venture, Closes After Losing Funding

Animal-free cream cheese startup Bold Cultr has suddenly closed its doors, the company announced yesterday, following a “difficult” decision by parent company General Mills to deprioritize its funding.  Revealing the news to fans on social media, Bold Cultr stated it began as a unique startup launched by G-Works, General Mills’ corporate venture studio, which was created to solve food-related consumer problems through experimental innovation. According to Bold Cultr, G-Works regularly reviews its innovation portfolio to evaluate its investments, and made the decision to deprioritize the brand’s funding, leading it to close operations on February 27.  Recent partnership The company’s abrupt closure comes just over a month after announcing a collaboration with Israeli alt-dairy company Remilk. Europe’s SimplyV Launching First Plant-Based Cream Cheese Bar in US

European brand SimplyV announces it is expanding its popular plant-based cream cheese to the US market, via distributor Franklin Foods. Made from almonds, Franklin says the chef-tested product offers the same taste and texture as dairy cream cheese, and will roll out to food service and retailers in March 2023.  According to SimplyV, its plant-based cream cheese has been a market leader in Europe for the past five years, and this is the first time the product will be available to US customers. Kraft Heinz Launches Philadelphia Plant-Based Cream Cheese in US

Kraft Heinz announces it is launching a plant-based version of its iconic Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Now available at select retailers in the US Southeast, including Atlanta, Houston and Miami, the company is planning more flavors ahead of a national rollout in Summer 2023.
