New Belgian Dietary Guidelines Recommend Limiting Red Meat and Consuming Legumes Several Times Per Week
Belgium’s Superior Health Council has published an advisory report containing updated dietary guidelines to help people prevent chronic diseases and live longer. The report recommends limiting red meat to 300g per week, while reducing processed meat consumption as much as possible — ideally to under 30g per week. Egg consumption should be limited to one per day. The guidelines emphasise the importance of whole plant foods, advising that legumes should be consumed several times per week. They also recommend eating at least 125g of whole grain products, 250g of fruit, and 300g of vegetables daily.
