Cultimate Foods — a biotech firm specializing in cell cultivation, which will present its cultivated intramuscular animal fat. Ikenga Wines — a tropical wine producer which has developed sustainable palm wine made without palm trees. POSEIDONA — transforms invasive algae and waste streams into valuable protein ingredients. Cyprus-Based The Mighty Kitchen Wins IFE Big Business Break Competition

Cypriot alt meat startup The Mighty Kitchen has taken the top spot at International Food Expo’s first Big Business Break competition. Along with three other finalists, The Mighty Kitchen pitched in front of a panel of judges at the event in London, UK. The prize is up to £500,000 in investment from Surya Foods, the co-founder of the initiative. The Mighty Kitchen first launched in Cyprus in 2019, offering Mediterranean-style alt meat products such as strips, gyros, shawarma, and Cypriot meatballs. Breaded chicken-style nuggets and tenders are also available. To produce the meat alternatives, materials chemistry and data modelling are used to give pea and wheat protein an authentically fibrous texture. VWS Pathfinder Reveals 2022 Finalists, With None From the US for the First Time Ever

VWS Pathfinder, a plant-based pitching competition exclusively for female founders, has revealed its finalists for 2022. For the first time since the competition began in 2020, no US founders have made the top five. The finalists are: Jennifer Côté, co-founder and CTO of Canadian cell-based milk producer Opalia. Marilena Schmich, co-founder and CEO of German plant-based seafood brand numi foods. Sofia Giampaoli, founder and CEO of British alt-protein ingredient solutions platform Alt Atlas. Tasneem Karodia, co-founder of South African cultivated meat producer Mzansi Meat. Verónica García-Arteaga, co-founder and CTO of German vegan egg brand Neggst. Carrefour Launches Plant-Based Contest for Innovative Startups

French supermarket chain Carrefour has created a competition called the Plant-Based Contest, designed to help innovative startups gain a foothold in the market. Startups from around the world are invited to apply for the competition between March 31 and May 8. Ten finalists will then be selected to pitch at an event in Paris on June 9, where five winners will be chosen. The competition has three categories — Plant-Based Protein Products, Strong Concept, and Service Offer. The jury will consist of representatives from Carrefour, BEL Group, The Vegetarian Butcher, Oatly, Proveg, daphni, Beyond Animal, Capital V, and Unovis. Finalists Announced For Vegan Investment Competition Pitch & Plant

The finalists for the UK’s leading plant-based investment competition, Pitch + Plant have been announced. Pitch + Plant 2019 takes place this Saturday evening on the 13th July at Lush Studio in Soho. It follows on from the Vevolution, Plant Based Business Bootcamp, a daytime leadership event for the plant-based sector which is attracting some of the biggest names in ethical entrepreneurship to speak.
