Impossible Introduces Steak Bites, Its First Plant-Based Steak Alternative

Impossible Foods has introduced its first plant-based steak product, Impossible® Steak Bites, at Natural Products Expo West. The pre-cooked, bite-sized pieces are designed to replicate the texture and taste of conventional steak while providing a plant-based protein alternative. Peter McGuinness, president and CEO of Impossible Foods, states, “Our steak bites are first and foremost delicious. They’re also packed with protein, no cholesterol, and less saturated fat versus the animal. You’re not going to find a better plant-based steak option than that.” Each serving contains 21 grams of protein, along with fiber, iron, and B vitamins. The product has no cholesterol and contains 80% less saturated fat compared to animal-based steak. Beyond Meat Stock Surges 15% After Cutting Losses and Improving Margins

On Friday, Beyond Meat beat analysts’ expectations for its fourth quarter results, shrinking its losses and reporting higher-than-expected revenue. The news sent Beyond shares soaring by 15% in after-market trading.  In an earnings call, Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown said that Q4 concluded a “[C]hallenging year for our business and category, one marked by persistently high inflation and trading down by consumers among proteins, slowing economy in key markets, and increased competitive activity.” Indeed, the company reported a 21% decline in revenue and lower sales across “all channels”, including a 17% drop in US grocery sales and a 30% sales decline in food service.
