Steakholder Foods, a company developing meat and fish alternatives using 3D printing technology, has secured a third payment of $250,000 from the Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (SIIRD). The company has now received $740,000 of the $1 million grant it has been awarded by SIIRD.
Steakholder Foods received its first grant installment in March 2024 after successfully producing 3D-printed hybrid fish alternatives using its proprietary technologies. The second payment was disbursed in November 2024 in response to the company’s creation of 3D-printed plant-based fish and eel.
The most recent installment corresponds to significant advancements in the flavor and texture of the 3D-printed eel. The company’s research in this area involves model planning, material development, premix formulation, and the creation of the final printed product.

Advancing food technology
Steakholder Foods has reported several notable steps over the past year, including securing its first revenue stream through the sale of plant-based fish premix blends. The company also completed a two-year R&D collaboration with UMAMI Bioworks to develop a scalable process for 3D-printed cultivated fish production, aided by the funding from SIIRD.
CEO Arik Kaufman recently outlined Steakholder Foods’ strategic direction for 2025, explaining that the company had secured key purchase orders indicating movement toward establishing consistent revenue streams. He said this would support the launch of the “Whaat Meat?! by Steakholder” product line.
Steakholder Foods will now work to expand globally, advance its commercialization efforts, and strengthen its position in the US market.
“We are thrilled to receive this third non-dilutive grant installment from SIIRD, which reflects our significant progress in collaboration with Umami Bioworks and commitment to advancing food technology,” said Kaufman. “We are excited to continue enhancing our 3D printing capabilities and premix formulations to create additional high-quality, sustainable seafood alternatives.”
