Oatly Becomes Official Oat Milk Partner for Black Sheep Coffee

Oatly has announced a multi-year collaboration with British coffeehouse chain Black Sheep Coffee, becoming the company’s official oat milk partner.

Oatly Barista Edition is now available at all 100 Black Sheep Coffee locations UK-wide. To celebrate, the coffee chain has launched several drinks with Oatly as the named default option, including the Berry Protein Shake, Coffee & Banana Shake, and matcha drinks in the flavours Blueberry and Strawberries & Cream. Oatly will also be available across the menu for use in coffees, teas, and other hot drinks.

Black Sheep Coffee has chosen the new larger format of Oatly Barista Edition, which comes in a 1.5L carton. The product was launched in June to provide an option for cafés and coffee shops that use large quantities of oat milk.

“Oatly’s exceptional taste and climate-friendly credentials align perfectly with our values here at Black Sheep Coffee, which is why we’ve chosen it as our oat drink of choice,” said Black Sheep Coffee. “As consumers increasingly opt for dairy alternatives, we’re delighted to have a larger format available that we can use in-store.”

“Best-in-class products”

In an interview conducted earlier this year, Oatly told vegconomist that it measures its progress by “how many litres of cow’s milk we can replace with oat drink”. As part of this mission, the company has recently launched a campaign in the UK with the aim of convincing more Brits to try oat milk in their tea. It comes after research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Oatly reportedly found that just 4% of tea drinkers use a plant-based alternative; in contrast, figures suggest that over half of Brits drink coffee with oat milk.

“To achieve our mission to be wherever dairy is, we need to do more than just make best-in-class products,” said Bryan Carroll, General Manager at Oatly UK & Ireland. “We also need to work with partners like Black Sheep to understand how best we can serve the needs of our customers. The 1.5L format was designed with professional baristas in mind.”
