VFG Sells German TOFUTOWN Facility to The New Originals Company

The Vegan Food Group (VFG), formed this January from the previous VFC Foods as a holding company comprising VFC, Meatless Farm, and Clives Purely Plants, and with plans to carry out further acquisitions such as that of TOFUTOWN in February, announces it is selling its manufacturing plant in Wiesbaum to The New Originals Company.

Described on its website as the “first truly European tofu company” and positioning itself as a “Europe-wide leader in tofu innovations”, The New Originals Company was founded in February 2024 by the Lunter family, of NLT Management Holding and Raiffeisenbank Landesbank Oberösterreich, which apparently employs 600 people across five countries.

“We will continue to pioneer tofu as an important part of the change in diet in Europe”

Matthias Krön, CEO of The New Originals Company, comments: “Bernd Drohsin and Tofutown’s team in Wiesbaum have been pioneers in organic tofu and tofu products in Europe since the 1980s. They produce outstanding traditional tofu and innovative products and have earned the trust of people in many European countries. The New Originals Company is proud to continue this longstanding tradition. We will continue to pioneer tofu as an important part of the change in diet in Europe and collaborate with the Vegan Food Group in the UK.”

Long term growth plans

The strategic move, according to the company, will allow VFG to focus on expanding its larger facility in Lüneburg, where a significant portion of the company’s plant-based products are produced. The sale will include the transfer of certain assets, brands, and tofu production capacities.

With the expected completion of the sale by year-end, Vegan Food Group will concentrate on its core business and product lines, while The New Originals Company will increase its tofu production capacity. Both companies aim to continue providing sustainable, plant-based products to European consumers, supporting the ongoing shift toward plant-based alternatives in their respective market segments.

Dave Sparrow, CEO of Vegan Food Group, comments on the sale: “By selling the Wiesbaum site, we can concentrate our resources on expanding the Lüneburg plant, which is important for our long-term growth plans. Tofu is still an important product category for VFG, but through this sale we can optimize our operational business while ensuring the continuous production of high-quality tofu products with The New Originals Company’s expertise.”
