Hamburg-based foodtech the Raging Pig Company has added three new plant-based sausage products to its pig-free product line, which includes vegan bacon and Raging Sausage, a German-style Bratwurst.
The latest additions to the lineup include smoked sausage, mini grilled sausages, and curry sausage, all crafted from a blend of peas and mushrooms to deliver a meaty consistency and flavour profile.
Collaborating closely with gastronomy partners, Raging Pig has prioritised simplicity and versatility in utilising their products. The newly launched plant-based sausages are now available in the food service sector, with an initial focus on restaurants, catering, and events.
Collaboration with food service partners
Already served by a range of establishments, from snack bars to festival venues and traditional pubs, the company aims to position itself as a prominent supplier of plant-based alternatives in Germany. Notably, the Norddeutscher Rundfunk canteens across Hamburg have adopted the products, which are available to the broadcaster’s employees.
Michael Foltin, operations manager at Studioküche Catering, stated, “We have been looking for an authentic, bite-proof sausage alternative that can be used as a bratwurst and currywurst in our canteens for a long time. With the products from The Raging Pig Company, we have finally found what we were looking for and can offer our employees a tasty and sustainable alternative from the region.”

Replacing traditional options
Currywurst is a canteen staple in Germany, with Raging Pig claiming that Germans consume an average of 800 million servings per year. The company is working towards replacing a substantial portion of these with its plant-based sausage alternatives by 2025. As part of this goal, the company collaborated with a Munich-based restaurant chain last year to launch a vegan Bavarian white sausage during Oktoberfest celebrations.
In addition to unveiling the new products, Raging Pig will be exhibiting them at the Internorga trade fair from March 8-12 in the Newcomers Area, where attendees can sample the entire product range.
In a recent interview with vegconomist, co-founder Dr. Arne Ewerbeck stated, “We believe that innovative technologies and products are very much needed and inescapable, but they are only part of the solution. In the end, it’s all about people and their driving forces to try new things and, hopefully, upgrade their habits.”
