Tesco to Stock Award-Winning Applewood Vegan Cheese

Tesco has become the third UK supermarket to stock Applewood‘s extremely popular vegan cheese. The cheese has been available at Tesco stores nationwide since July 6.

When Applewood launched its vegan cheese in October of last year, it became the first dairy cheese company to make a plant-based alternative. The cheese was developed in collaboration with vegan brand VBites.

Initially, Asda was the only major retailer to stock Applewood Vegan. It was an instant success, with 40 percent of the stores that stocked it selling out on the first day. The brand’s success soon caught the attention of Waitrose, who began stocking it in 250 stores nationwide.

And others took notice too — Applewood Vegan has already won several awards, including the Gold Award at the FreeFrom Food Awards 2020, Best Vegan Cheese in the 2019 PETA Awards, Best Vegan Cheese in the 2019 Vegan Food UK Awards, and Best Vegan Cheese For Melting in the Vegan Cheese Co. 2019 Awards.

Recently, the brand launched Applewood Vegan Slices, which are available in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. Like the block, the slices are coconut-based and fortified with B12.

“We are overwhelmed with the success of Applewood Vegan, and are thrilled that Tesco has become the third major retailer to stock our award-winning cheese,” said Lisa Harrison, Senior Brand Manager for Applewood. “It shows that there is an increasing demand for vegan cheese, not just among the vegan community, but also with flexitarians.”
