UK-based alternative protein pet food brand THE PACK has announced its acquisition by Prefera Petfood SRL, a producer of premium natural wet foods for cats and dogs.
As part of the deal, THE PACK founders Damien Clarkson and Judy Nadel will join the Prefera team to drive the growth of the brand across the UK and Europe. Several new high-quality nutrition products are expected to be brought to market through the partnership.
The news comes just a month after Prefera Petfood partnered with biotech company Biocraft Pet Nutrition to commercialize cat food made from cultivated mouse meat.
“THE PACK has been one of the pioneering companies in the emerging alternative protein pet food market,” said Nicola Magalini, Managing Partner at Prefera Petfood. “Prefera is excited to add the brand to our growing portfolio and to work with Damien Clarkson and Judy Nadel in growing the brand across Europe and vastly expanding its range of products.”

Creating the next generation of pet food
THE PACK was founded in 2021 and offers a range of innovative wet and dry pet foods made with alternative proteins. Last September, the brand reported that it had achieved 41% growth in the first half of 2024 after seeing “remarkable interest” from pet owners.
In February of this year, THE PACK claimed it had become the first brand in the world to sell a cultivated meat product for dogs after its Chick Bites treats, developed in collaboration with cultivated chicken producer Meatly, became available at pet store Pets at Home.
“In joining Prefera Petfood, THE PACK is going to be able to create the next generation of highly nutritious products for pets,” said Damien Clarkson, co-founder and CEO of THE PACK. “We are excited to combine our skills with the world-class production talent assembled by Prefera and look forward to seeing the brand grow greatly in the coming years.”
THE PACK will be present at Prefera’s stand (Hall 36, D47, C48) at the pet industry trade fair Zoomark in Bologna from May 5-7.
