Amy’s Kitchen Opens 389,000 Square Foot Facility, Creates 680 New York Jobs

The organic food company, Amy’s Kitchen, recently broke ground on the construction of its first food production facility in the Hudson Valley, Upstate New York. This $95 million facility will create 680 jobs in the town of Goshen, located in Orange County. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2021.

The 389,000 square-foot vegan kitchen and production facility will contribute an estimated $30 million annually in salaries and compensation. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in a statement, called the new facility “one of the largest development projects in the Mid-Hudson region in decades.” He said it would create hundreds of jobs, boost the local manufacturing industry, and generate economic opportunities for residents. Amy’s unveiled plans for the growth five years ago stating the new facility was necessary to meet the surging demand for its organic, vegan/vegetarian, and gluten-free meals in the Eastern US. Its goal is to run a zero-waste, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified plant with renewable energy.

According to the Associated Press, the company plans to produce vegan pizza, gluten-free burritos, pasta, and other products at its new East Coast hub. New York state has offered incentives to Amy’s Kitchen, including up to $5.8 million in tax credits tied to job creation, investment, and low-cost power. “We couldn’t be more delighted to have found a community of like-minded people here in Goshen,” Amy’s CEO and co-founder Andy Berliner said in a statement.

Soon after announcing its newest production facility, Amy’s Kitchen launched its new International Wraps and Breakfast Burritos. The vegan wrap flavors include Vietnamese Bahn Mi, Indian Vegetable Korma, and Moroccan Tagine. The vegetarian Wrap flavors include meatless Italian Supreme Pizza and Greek Spanakopita. The Breakfast Burritos include the vegan Classic and the vegetarian Ranchero.

We recently reported on Amy’s Kitchen as one of the major players in the plant-based protein market.
