Chilean foodtech company NotCo and LATAM Airlines Group have announced the introduction of NotCo’s plant-based products in the Premium Economy cabin of LATAM’s domestic flights in Chile as part of a menu update.
This partnership will see the integration of six unique sandwich options into LATAM’s in-flight service, crafted through a joint effort between the airline’s chefs and NotCo. The menu options, which will vary weekly, feature NotCo’s plant-based products, including NotMila, NotChicken, and NotBurger, in combination with a variety of other ingredients.
“Getting on board LATAM planes is simply a dream for the company”
Max Silva, the country manager of NotCo in Chile, stated, “Getting on board LATAM planes is simply a dream for the company. Bringing the revolution and innovation that so distinguishes us to a company of such magnitude as LATAM makes us feel that we are making an important change not only in the industry that concerns us, but beyond.”
Meals will include creations like the NotMila sandwich with NotMayo, fresh spinach, and roasted tomato on whole wheat ciabatta and the NotBurger with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and buttery vegan cheese on potato bread, among others.
Global airlines embrace plant-based
Other airlines have made similar additions to their onboard menus to incorporate more plant-based options. Emirates recently announced that it plans to expand its range of vegan recipes in 2024, British Airways added Glebe Farm oat milk, and last year, both United Airlines and Alaska Airlines added more vegan meal options.
LATAM Airlines Group senior experience manager Alex Wegner also commented on the partnership: “We are happy to incorporate NotCo products into the vegetarian preparations we offer in our Premium Economy cabin. We know that the plant-based industry has gained ground among consumers around the world, and at LATAM, we like to be at the forefront; part of our commitment to our customers is to offer the best in-flight experience.
“Thanks to this alliance, we can diversify our gastronomic offer and provide our passengers with high-quality, plant-based options that are not only innovative products but also environmentally friendly.”
Moving the needle
Silva further spoke on the significance of this new partnership: “This alliance represents an important step in our commitment to offering alternatives for everyone, and that is precisely what we aim for, moving the needle, questioning ourselves, and satisfying a broader audience with delicious food. We’re redefining what the on-air dining experience means.”
Founder and CEO of NotCo, Matias Muchnick, posted the announcement on social media today, stating, “We are announcing one of the most important partnerships in our history with the largest airline in Latin America, LATAM Airlines.
“Yesterday, we [had] 100 SKUs in more than 45,000 outlets on earth, and today, we add 6 preparations served in the air that include NotChicken, NotBurger, NotMayo, NotMila, and a couple of other surprises that we don’t want to spoil.”
