Plantaway Launches India’s First Plant-Based Chicken Fillet

Plant-based brand Plantaway has launched a new chicken alternative that the company claims will set a new standard in the market: India’s first plant-based chicken fillet.

Whether grilled, baked, or sautéed, Plantaways’s whole cut, branded the Chick’n Fillet, is said to replicate the taste and texture of chicken, “satisfying even the most discerning palates.”

Crafted from pea protein, it offers 19g of protein per pack (two pieces), dietary fiber, and an option without soy, making it an excellent choice for those looking to boost their protein intake. Moreover, the new fillets are said to have zero trans fats, preservatives, artificial colorings, or flavorings, targeting health-conscious consumers.

Chick’n Fillet is available on the company’s website and at Swiggy and Zomato in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, and Hyderabad.

One-stop shop for kind living

Indian culinary leader Romil Ratra, alongside Graviss Good Foods, launched Plantaway in 2022 as a one-stop shop to revolutionize the plant-based food scene in India.

Plantaway offers a comprehensive range of alternatives, encompassing meat substitutes like chick’n keema and mutt’n seekh kebabs, almond and oat milk, cheese (cheddar, mozzarella), dips (spicy chipotle mayo), and even plant-based butter. According to the brand, this one-stop solution simplifies the transition to a plant-based lifestyle, propelling a kinder world for animals and the environment.

Debuting in Mumbai, Plantaway has expanded to cities including Delhi, Thane, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Noida, and Gurugram. It offers convenient access through its online DTC store and major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Vegan Dukan, and Big Basket. Additionally, brick-and-mortar stores like Bombay Gourmet and Rakhangi Store will carry Plantaway products.

Chick’n, the future

According to Our World in Data, 202 million chickens will be slaughtered in a single day – that’s 140,000 a minute on average. Luckily, plant-based chicken is gaining popularity worldwide, sometimes even preferred by consumers over poultry flesh.

In India, the world’s biggest vegetarian population, chicken is a popular option used by consumers and chefs to either revamp traditional dishes or enjoy popular products, such as strips, nuggets, and fillets.

Among the many brands using plants, food tech, or a mix of both to develop chicken-free products, GoodDot offers a range of high-protein plant-based chicken products, including strips, chunks in brine, and a ready-to-cook chicken alternative. Imagine Meats, founded by Bollywood stars Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza, has introduced nuggets, biryani, and kebabs. Also, Mister Veg has launched strips, nuggets, and plant-based pomfret fish! Pomfret is a popular white fish in Indian dishes.

Vezlay, a Delhi-based company pioneering soy-based products since 2011, offers an alternative to chicken called Soya Vegget. Wakao Foods, which uses jackfruit as its plant source, offers products such as Raw Jack or Barbecue Jackfruit that can be used as an alternative to chicken. Meanwhile, the startup GREENEST Foods offers plant-based chicken nuggets and strips made from chickpeas.

“Whether you’re a vegetarian looking to up your protein game, a health-conscious individual, or someone looking to explore new and exciting food options, our plant-based chick’n fillet is the perfect addition to your kitchen. Embrace the future of food with our innovative and delicious plant-based creation,” Plantaway shared on social media.
